Tips for New Teachers

1. Build Relationships- Make friends with the custodial staff, let the faculty know you are eager to get to know them, and most importantly get to know your students and their families. You'll be seeing a lot of all those people this year. Start building those trusting relationships now in the beginning, they're so important!

2. Communicate- Be sure you let your students and their families know your expectations. The clearer their understanding is of how you do things (grading, behavior, homework) the less likely they are to question things later.

3. Ask for help- Get a mentor, ask questions and advice, find someone that you trust and can relate to that can guide you through this journey. You wouldn't expect one of your students to not ask for help when they're struggling, so you shouldn't either.
